John is a contraction of the Hebrew name Jehohanan and means "Jehovah has been Gracious"
John was the son of Zebedee (The Gift of Jehovah) and Salome (Peaceable; feminine form of
Solomon), as was his brother James. John, James, Simon Peter and his brother Andrew were
partners in a fishing business.
Peter, James and John were considered the "inner circle" of the disciples that traveled with Jesus during
His ministry. Mark tells us that Jesus called James and John "Sons of Thunder".
17 James the son of Zebedee and John the brother of James, to whom He gave the name
Boanerges, that is, "Sons of Thunder";
John presents the deity of Jesus as the Son of God. He emphasizes that those who have faith in Jesus
Christ the Son of God will have eternal life and those who die in their unbelief are under the
condemnation of God.
John's main focus was on Jesus being the personal visible representation of God, so that when He spoke, it was as if God was speaking directly to Man. John was also the only one of the disciples who was with Jesus at His crucifixion.
